BATFN Board of Directors: Marc Conte, Stanford University
Marc Conte is a post-doctoral fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University. Dr. Conte is an environmental economist with the Natural Capital Project, where he is developing and applying spatially-explicit ecosystem service valuation models to aid policy-makers, non-governmental organizations, and private firms in their land-use decisions. He is particularly interested in the impact of policy mechanism choice on the magnitude and location of service provision across the landscape. Dr. Conte is currently engaged in several research projects concerning the potential role of land management in efforts to reduce global greenhouse-gas emissions, including studies of the determinants of voluntary carbon offset prices and what conditions must exist for policies to ensure that sequestration efforts on private lands involve the joint production of additional ecosystem services.
Dr. Conte received a Ph.D. from the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara as a fellow in the NSF-funded Economics and Environmental Science IGERT program.
