BATFN Board of Directors: Avery Cohn, University of California, Berkeley

Avery Cohn is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy & Management at the University of California, Berkeley. He is building a decision support tool to help reduce deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions caused by cattle ranching in Brazil. Previous projects at the agriculture-forest nexus include conducting lifecycle analysis of sugarcane ethanol in Brazil, assessing the conservation potential of environmental certification for soybean produced in Brazil, and an evaluation of shade coffee certification as a conservation tool in El Salvador. He holds a Master's of Environmental Science from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
